Our Prediction India vs Hong Kong Asia Cup
India would win this game
India opens its Asia Cup 2018 campaign in a Group-A draw against Hong Kong. There is very little to compare between the two sides with the former ranked 2nd in ICC ODI Team Rankings and the latter not even having ODI status. But Rohit Sharma wouldn’t like his team to be complacent ahead of the game and start on the right note ahead of the all-important game against Pakistan. For Hong Kong it would be a game where they would need to play out of their skins if they want to fancy winning against the strong Indian line-up. Strange things have happened in cricket and the crowds at Dubai International Cricket Stadium would hope to see an improved performance from Hong Kong compared to the show they put up against Pakistan in the last game.
They are without the services of regular skipper and their best batsman Virat Kohli but Rohit Sharma is leading a strong side. They are currently ranked 2nd on ICC Team Rankings and achieved this feat on the back of strong performances over the last couple of years. They have performed well in all conditions and would fancy their chances in this game against Hong Kong where the opposition isn’t expected to cause too much of trouble if the Indian team plays to its potential. The only thing worrying the skipper would be the unsettled middle order which was woeful both with form and application in their last ODI series in England.
The strength in the team’s batting is in top 3 where Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and No.3 KL Rahul all of whom can win a game on their own. Ambati Rayudu looks all set to make a comeback to the side at No. 4 while it would be interesting to see who occupies the No. 5 slot with MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya to be in the finishers’ role. Indian bowling looks settled with its performance in England and Jasprit Bumrah is expected to lead the new ball attack with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and this would be tough for Hong Kong to negotiate. Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal both of whom have had enjoyed great success in this format would look to trouble the opposition especially Yadav who is tough to read off his hand as well as the pitch.
Anshuman Rath led side had a great campaign in the qualifiers but their comprehensive loss to Pakistan in the first league game has exposed the level of difference between the two sides. Apart from the first few overs of their innings they never really looked up to the challenge in the game. While few would have pinned their hopes on the side to cause an upset even their fans would have felt let down by the surrender against Pakistan. Some of the batsmen just threw away their wicket as the side bundled out within 38 overs. In what could very well be their last game in the tournament, the side would look to perform well in the game.
Captain Anshuman Rath along with Nizakat Khan looked good in the first few overs of the last game till that unfortunate run out that saw Khan’s dismissal. Babar Hayat at No. 3 has to play better for his side to be able to put up a big score and so do Christopher Carter and Kinchit Shah in the middle overs. They have the talent and need to work on their application a bit. In the bowling department it looked toothless apart from Ehsan Khan in the last game. Aizaz Khan, Tanwir Afzal and Ehsan Nawaz will need to do a bit more if the side is to put up a decent challenge against the strong Indian top order and Rath would hope they put up their best show in the game.
India are overwhelming favourites to win this game and Hong Kong would have to play out of their skin to cause an upset.
