Gordon Elliott’s Tiger Roll Amongst the Favourites for the 2018 Grand National
Gordon Elliott has enjoyed a memorable 2018 so far and the trainer will be hoping to continue his successful streak with a victory in the Randox Health Grand National on April 14th. Tiger Roll, who will be accompanied by experienced jockey Davy Russell has been backed into joint-favouritism this week and can be supported at 12/1 with Paddy Power, who are paying six places on the four-and-a-half mile event.
The diminutive Tiger Roll is a multiple winner at Cheltenham and the Elliott yard has already enjoyed success in the Irish National this month. General Principle narrowly prevailed at odds of 20/1 in the mud at Fairyhouse on April 2nd and there is a possibility that he could also be entered into this contest. The in-form trainer will also saddle Ucello Conti and Bless The Wings in the race, with the pair priced at 22/1 and 66/1 respectively.
The Irish have a strong hand in the contest with Willie Mullins’ Total Recall also amongst the favourites. Owner Lar Byrne is hoping for better luck at the track after suffering misfortune with Hardy Eustace and Schlinders Hunt. Total Recall has enjoyed success in the Ladbrokes Trophy and in the Munster National at Limerick and despite being the 11/1 favourite in the betting, he is likely to be extremely popular with punters.
Other Irish raiders include Valseur Lido for Henry de Bromhead, Bonny Kate for Noel Meade and Alpha Des Obeaux for Michael Morris. Willie Mullins also sends Pleasant Company and Childrens List to the track. William Hill have a number of #YourOdds specials ahead of the big race including 11/8 for the winner to be trained in Ireland and 5/1 for JP McManus to own the winner.
The UK challenge will be led by Blaklion for the Twiston-Davies yard whilst Sandy Thomson’s Seeyouatmidnight has also been well-supported in the market.
The Aintree Festival gets underway on April 12th with Liverpool Day and there are a number of top-class races taking place across the three days, including the Grade 1 Aintree Hurdle, which will see SuperSundae face The New One and My Tent or Yours.
