Everton Must Improve Significantly Ahead of Their Visit To Old Trafford
The opening Europa League encounter didn’t go according to plan for Ronald Koeman and Everton as they were swept aside by Serie A outfit Atalanta. The Toffees were second best throughout the 90 minutes and it was a second disappointing performance on the bounce from the blue half of Merseyside. Koeman admitted his side weren’t at the races and he will be hoping for a brighter showing here.
After losing tamely to Spurs at Goodison Park on September 9th, Everton face one of their trickiest assignments of the campaign when they make the short journey to Old Trafford on September 17th to face leaders Manchester United.
The bookmakers aren’t taking any chances, with Bet365 pricing Jose Mourinho’s side up as 4/11 favourites for success against the Toffees. Despite their spending spree this summer, there are many suggestions that the new recruits have failed to gel and optimistic pre-season expectations have been substantially dampened by their tame start to the campaign.
All eyes will be on Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku, who lines up against his former club and is the 3/4 favourite in the anytime goalscorer market with Boylesports.
Elsewhere, Arsenal make the hop across the capital to face Chelsea in a mouth-watering London derby on Sunday. The Gunners were in Europa League action on Thursday with a much-changed line-up beating FC Koln 3-1 whilst the Blues battered Qarabag two days earlier. Arsene Wenger’s side failed to turn up at Anfield during their last away trip and must start quicker at Stamford Bridge if they want to return to the Emirates with anything to show for it.
24 hours earlier, Watford host Manchester City, Liverpool welcome Burnley to Anfield whilst Spurs aim to continue their winning run when hosting Swansea at Wembley.
