Previewing This Week’s Best Champions League and Europa League Matches

Manchester United warmed up for their Champions League meeting with Sevilla with a 2-1 win over Liverpool. Influential French midfielder Paul Pogba missed the clash but is likely to return for the Red Devils on March 13th. Jose Mourinho faced criticism for his overly-defensive policy during the first leg, as his side secured a potentially valuable 0-0 draw in Seville. Betway have listed the hosts as 4/6 favourites to complete the job at Old Trafford with the Premier League side’s strong home form playing a significant part in their odds-on price.

CL and Europa League

Elsewhere, Bayern hit five against Besiktas in the first leg and are 8/13 to win inside 90 minutes when they travel to Turkey. Roma found it difficult to break down Shakhtar during their first leg meeting in Donetsk but they should find it much simpler at Stadio Olimpico and are the 7/10 favourites to emerge victorious in the second leg. They warmed up for this game with a resounding 3-0 win over Torino.

Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 2-1 on March 10th but will face much sterner opposition when they take on Barcelona at the Nou Camp. The Blues have been priced up as 6/1 outsiders for the second leg although they managed to contain the La Liga leaders for large parts of their recent meeting at Stamford Bridge. Barcelona, who should have Lionel Messi back in time for this crucial game, have been priced up as the 4/9 favourites.

Arsenal Hoping to Complete the Job at the Emirates

Arsenal surprisingly emerged 2-0 winners at the San Siro on March 8th as they netted twice in the first half against AC Milan. The Gunners are hoping they can secure qualification to the next round of the Europa League during this second leg meeting with the Italian side. Paddy Power have priced the hosts up as 10/11 favourites but the opposition is unlikely to make it easy and Gennaro Gattuso’s side should come out fighting. Elsewhere, Lyon have given themselves a one goal advantage against CSKA Moscow and tournament favourites Atletico Madrid should find it relatively easy-going against Lokomotiv Moscow.
