Bayern vs Benfica: Predictions, Betting Tips and Odds
Bayern Munich welcome Portuguese giants Benfica to Germany knowing that just a draw will see them qualify for the Champions League knock out stages.
Bayern have not enjoyed this season so far domestically but they have dealt with their Champions League group in their usual manner. Even a draw would be enough for the Bundesliga champions to progress but Benfica are desperate for points so it could be a fairly open game. If Bayern’s domestic form creeps into their European displays, though, then Benfica might feel they’re in with a chance.
Benfica know that only a win will really do – and even that will not be enough if Ajax beat AEK in the other group match, which is probably expected, but far from guaranteed. The Europa League is looking the more likely destination for a European campaign this season for the Portuguese club.
The confidence that usually comes with Bayern Munich has not been as evident this season and Niko Kovac will know that a victory is vital against Benfica as they will travel to Amsterdam for the final match against Ajax needing something from the game if they are to finish top of the group.
Benfica have gone through a curious run of form recently, dropping points in the Portuguese league and dropping down to fifth in the table at one point – a major shock for one of the country’s big three, along with Sporting and Porto. This was always going to be a tough Champions League group to navigate out of and it would seem as if a 2-0 Bayen win would end their dreams of progressing here.
- Bayern Munich to win
Benfica have failed to score against either Bayern or Ajax in the group and it would not be a surprise if that form continued.
- Bayern to win
Bayern have won three group games by the same scoreline – 2-0. The only other game was a 1-1 draw at home to Ajax.

Head to Head
For two sides with great European pedigree they haven’t met many times before. Benfica have actually never beaten the German champions and lost 2-0 at home to Bayern on match day one.
- Benfica have never even drawn a match with Bayern in Germany. Their previous three matches have all resulted in defeats
- Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski has just one goal less than Champions League top scorer this season, Edin Dzeko.
- Benfica have found it difficult to keep up with their talented opponents in the group – perfectly illustrated by Haris Seferovic featuring highly in the most fouls committed table.
- Robert Lewandowski has scored in every game Bayern Munich have won in the Champions League this season.
