The match is over.
This Thursday United travel to the Netherlands to face Alkmaar in game day two of this season’s Europa League group stage.
United won their opening game of the group stage 1-0 at home against Astana and will want to make it two out of two in this one.
Alkmaar have had a good start to their Eredivisie campaign winning five of their opening seven games and currently sit in third place behind PSV Eindhoven and Ajax. Moroccan striker Oussama Idrissi has six goals to his name already this season and could give United’s backline something to think about.
United needed a goal from youngster Mason Greenwood to seal the win against Astana in their previous game and Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could put out another inexperienced team in this one. The Norwegian is under pressure to do better in the Premier League and has several injuries on his hands giving him reason to rotate heavily for this fixture.
Alkmaar drew their opening game in the group stage 2-2 away to Partizan Belgrade and will be keen to impress their fans in this one. The Dutch side could cause United problems, but the Premier League team have enough attacking options to get a result here.
Head to Head
These sides have never met before in European competition.
The match to end with a Man United win
Alkmaar will be hoping that their first meeting against Man United goes according to plan and will be cheered on by a boisterous home support. The Eredivisie side have enough attacking firepower to cause United problems.
Manchester United need a good result here to shake off the 2-0 defeat by West Ham on the weekend, however they have several injury concerns going into this one. Eric Bailly, Anthony Martial, and Phil Jones are all ruled out, while Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, and Diogo Dalot are all carrying knocks.
