Our Prediction Afghanistan vs Pakistan, Super Four:

Pakistan will win this game

An Afghanistan versus Pakistan contest could have been predicted without having to bite one’s tongue even two years back. But the kind of improvement Afghanistan has shown in the limited overs cricket in the last two seasons is admirable. They always go into a game looking like a side that can win it against any opposition. Their spin bowling attack isn’t inferior to any other side in the world. Pakistan on the other hand would have to overcome from the shock of a massive defeat they suffered against India in the last game. Sarfraz Ahmed would hope that his men are up to the task when they play their neighbours in their first Super Four game in Asia Cup 2018. Fans at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi can hope to see a tight contest between the two sides.

Asghar Afghan’s team is a talented bunch of individuals who are committed towards establishing themselves on the global stage. Their show against Sri Lanka is a perfect case to this argument. Not only did they bat well but also played to their strengths in the bowling department. There is one thing for sure they aren’t going to be intimated by their opposition. The team is gelling well as a unit and it reflects in the performance. A game against the strong Pakistani side would always be challenging but the side has always shown hunger for success and would hope to do well this time around.

Batting is the weaker link for the Afghan side but in the tournament so far wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad and Ihsanullah Janat have scored runs. Rahmat Shah in spite of his failure against Bangladesh is a good prospect at No. 3. Their middle order is good with Hashmatullah Shahidi, Asghar Afghan and Mohammad Nabi. It is however their bowling that makes them a really good side. Rashid Khan without any doubt is their most dependable bowling along with Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi. If Aftab Alam and Gulbadin Naib do well in the pace department this side would count on its chances against Pakistan.

The team is stronger than Afghanistan on paper but skipper Sarfraz Ahmed would be worried about their habit putting up disastrous performances in crucial games. The team has a long history of wearing the unpredictability tag. If the side performs to its potential they are second to none in the world and they showed this with their clinical win versus Hong Kong. But in the game against India they looked clueless with their batting. Most batsmen wanted to hit their way out of the tight Indian bowling and perished while attempting to do so. Sarfraz would count on his boys to make a perfect start in the Super Four and defeat the Afghan side.

Batting for Pakistan has been a tale of contrast in the two games they have played so far. Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq both looked good against Hong Kong but failed against India but they are capable of scoring big. Babar Azam has looked in great form so far in the tournament and also with Sohaib Malik would look to build on the innings. The lower middle order including skipper Sarfraz have to deliver in the next game. Bowling like always is the strong point for the side and Mohammad Amir has looked in good shape and has been well supported by Usman Khan and Hasan Ali. But it is their other bowlers including Sohaib Malik, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf and Fakhar Zaman who will need to take bigger responsibilities in the upcoming match.

Afghanistan is an improved side coming into this contest but Pakistan with its experience and the fact that they have a stronger batting unit would start as favourites in this game.
