Our Prediction Afghanistan vs Bangladesh
Afghanistan will win this game
Few would have expected Bangladesh and Afghanistan to make it to the make it to Super Four without dropping much sweat. But such had been the form of the Sri Lankan team in the tournament that the two sides now brace up for another go at each other in the Super Four stage. Afghanistan would come into the game with confidence of having defeated Bangladesh comprehensively in the league game by a margin of 136 runs. For Mashrafe Mortaza and his men it would be an opportunity to overcome the mistakes they made in the last game versus Afghanistan. As the two sides meet for the second time in the tournament it would be a great opportunity for the crowd at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi to enjoy a great game.
There is not a single cricket fan in the world worth his or her salt who wouldn’t bow down to the progress Afghanistan has made in the last few years. A team that plays by a strict script they have the skills and temperament to run over the best opposition. They are a well-knit unit where every single player seems to be well aware of his role in the side. Few would have hoped for them to top in the Group stage but it just goes to show how good Asghar Afghan and his men are. But the captain would know that Bangladesh is a good side to make the same mistakes again especially when they play a full side.
In the batting department Afghanistan seems to be improving with every game. The batting is dependent on the Top 3 – Mohammad Shahzad, Ihsanullah Janat and Rahmat Shah all of whom have been among the runs so far in the tournament. Asghar Afghan hasn’t had a great tournament so far and would hope to improve. Hashmatullah Shahidi has had a good tournament and Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi turned it around in the last game with the bat. In the bowling department Rashid Khan is undoubtedly their most potent weapon. Along with Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Nabi to share work in the spin department the attack looks threatening. Aftab Alam and Gulbadin Naib would hope to hold things tight from their ends to let the spinners exploit the conditions.
They have had a good tournament and have performed well to the expectation of their fans. But skipper Mashrafe Mortaza would hope his side comes out of the misery they inflicted upon themselves in the last game against Afghanistan. They allowed the two lower order batsmen to run away with the game where they looked all set to dismiss Afghanistan for a low score. Mortaza would hope his boys play to their potential in this game to and not loosen the grip on the opposition when they have the game in their bag. Nevertheless the team would put such things behind and hope to do well in the upcoming game.
Tamim Iqbal’s injury has dented the Bangladesh batting by a sledgehammer. Liton Das and Nazmul Hossain Shanto will have to offer their side a better start in this game. Shakib Al Hasan had a good day with the bat last time the two sides met and with Mushfiqur Rahim being in good form and Mohammad Mithun and Mahmudullah chipping in batting looks to be in safe hands. On the bowling frobt the side has got good mix of fast bowlers and spinners with Mashrafe Mortaza and Mustafizur Rahman handling the new ball and Shakib taking charge of the spin department along with Mehidy Hasan and Mosaddek Hossain. They have a decent bowling line-up that can trouble the Afghan batsmen.
The sides are closely matched in terms of talent but Afghanistan with its better crop of spinners would start as favourites in this game.
