The Emirates FA Cup Semi-Final Preview
Man UTD and Spurs kick off our weekend of FA Cup semi-final action on Saturday, with the round being sewn up by Chelsea and Southampton on Sunday. All four Premier League teams will look to take their place in the English domestic season finale at Wembley on 19th May.
Manchester United v Tottenham – Saturday, 21st
With both semis taking place at Wembley this weekend, the first tie throws up a strange scenario with Spurs being the away team at their temporary home stadium.
Although 12 time winners of the FA Cup, Man UTD, will look to win this tie, Jose Mourinho has decided to use this fixture as a lesson to his poor performing players in their 1-0 defeat to West Brom by dropping them.
Also coming off a domestic loss as they head into this tie, Spurs will look to make their familiarity of the pitch an advantage. Pochettino’s men have been in scintillating form at home this season and although this tie sees 2nd play 4th, many will see Tottenham edge this encounter with a narrow victory.
Prediction: 2 – 1 Spurs with Harry Kane as the first scorer.
Chelsea v Southampton – Sunday, 22nd
Before anyone gets Deja-vu, we did see Southampton Chelsea last weekend in the Premier League and the game saw the Saint’s surrender a two goal home lead as they suffered a 2-3 at the hands of the Blues. Whilst many may use this to help their predictions for the upcoming semi, don’t forget that anything can happen in the cup!
While Blue’s boss, Conte is calling for his players to show more pride for the club, he may find himself without star defender Marcos Alonso as the FA are currently investigating his alleged stamp in their last outing. Also in their previous fixture, super sub striker Olivier Giroud broke the Premier League record for most goals scored by a substitute with his late brace against the Saints.
New Southampton boss, Mark Hughes will no doubt be convincing his men to use this tie to lift the gloom of the season as they find the task of fighting relegation may now be out of their hands.
Prediction: 3 – 0 Chelsea with Eden Hazard as the first scorer
