Spain vs Russia Predictions
Spain finished top of Group B courtesy of VAR. Iago Aspas’ strike had originally been ruled out for offside but the decision was overturned by the officials following a closer inspection. They haven’t been completely convincing but their pre-tournament turmoil will not have helped matters. They found it tough against Morocco and they may need some defensive tweaks ahead of this round of 16 game. They will be expected to win this game and their strength in depth is part of the reason why. They can bring on a number of talented players such as Rodrigo, Marco Asensio and Saul Niguez, who will all be hoping to get some minutes under their belt in this fixture. Russia’s Group A campaign came to a stuttering conclusion against Uruguay and they may struggle with Spain’s movement in this fixture. Spain can be backed at 8/13 with William Hill and should be able to book their place in the last eight. Russia are missing a couple of players for this game including the suspended Igor Smolnikov and the stricken Alan Dzagoev.
Spain vs Russia Preview
Spain have been far from convincing so far and their defence has struggled against pacier teams. Fernando Hierro is likely to make some alterations ahead of this tie. Andres Iniesta is still incredibly industrious in the centre of the park and he is likely to pull the strings yet again. Spain are likely to rely upon their patient build-up once more as they try and find a way past the Russian defence.
Russia scored eight times in their opening two matches and the hosts looked lethal in attack during those outings. Their first real test came against Uruguay and they came unstuck against Oscar Tabarez’s men. They have a number of dangerous players who are perfectly capable of causing an upset here and they will be roared on by a partisan crowd in Moscow.
Both Teams to Score Prediction
Spain have only kept one clean sheet at the tournament so far and that came against Iran. They did concede a goal in that particular fixture, which was overturned by VAR. They will be desperate to get back to their defensive best here but it could be tough. Russia netted eight times in Group A and only kept one clean sheet which came against Saudi Arabia. With plenty at stake, both sides will play with urgency and this could be an absorbing contest. Both Teams to Score? Yes is available at 13/11 with 888sport.
Russia have seen all three of their games at the 2018 World Cup feature three or more goals. Two of Spain’s three games have also been high-scoring affairs. Both sides have firepower in their team and neither of the pair has been defensively secure in recent outings. Each of the last three meetings between these sides has ended with Over 2.5 Goals and it can be backed at 5/4 with Betfair.
1 x 2 Odds
Unsurprisingly, Spain begin this game as the odds-on favourites and can be backed at 13/20 with Bet365. Russia will fancy their chances of pulling off a shock and they can be backed at 11/2, whilst it’s 14/5 for the game to end all-square.
