Southampton Aiming to Find Their Shooting Boots Against Manchester United
Southampton fans haven’t had much to cheer in recent months as their side have lacked a killer instinct in front of goal. The Saints netted three times against West Ham on the 19th of August but have failed to hit the target in eight of their last ten Premier League games. This run includes their goalless draw against Manchester United in May when Manolo Gabbiadini’s penalty was saved by Sergio Romero.
The South Coast club were managed by Claude Puel last season but the appointment of former Alaves coach Mauricio Pellegrino has failed to turn the tide with the club scoring just four times in their opening five matches. The Saints face Jose Mourinho’s side once again on September 23rd and will be hoping to build upon their 1-0 success at Selhurst Park. The hosts are 4/7 with William Hill just to find the net in this game with Manchester United priced at 5/4 to keep a clean sheet on the road.
Other Premier League fixtures including West Ham hosting Spurs at the London Stadium in the lunchtime kick-off and the Hammers are looking to replicate their 1-0 success here in May. Leicester face Liverpool at 5:30pm in a repeat of the midweek Carabao Cup tie whilst a rampant Manchester City host goal-shy Crystal Palace. Roy Hodgson’s appointment failed to have the desired effect and the former England and Fulham boss faces a difficult task in just his second game in charge. Champions Chelsea make a trip to the Potteries to face Stoke whilst September 24th sees Newcastle make the long journey south to face Brighton as they bid to make it four consecutive Premier League victories.
