Newcastle vs Tottenham: Predictions, Odds and Betting Tips
Saturday, August 11, 2018, 12:30 PM
St. James’ Park, Newcastle
It’s time for the talking to stop and the action to start as top four hopefuls Spurs start their 2018-19 Premier League season with a trip to Newcastle.
The two sides have had quite contrasting summers. Tottenham have paled into almost obscurity keeping themselves well and truly to themselves whilst Newcastle United fans continue their daily attempt at driving owner Mike Ashley out of the club.
However, things have gone further now with players getting involved by refusing to take part in media duties due to a dispute over bonus payments.
The Magpies are in an internal battle that could see them self-destruct (not good preparation for a gruelling campaign) and Spurs look willing to take advantage.
Although there is one similarity between the two clubs, little to no transfer activity at the time of writing.
Newcastle’s mission to derail themselves has left a gaping hole for a Tottenham side unchanged from last season to slide straight through and almost walk to a comfortable victory despite numerous players returning from World Cup duty.
A 3-0 victory looks like providing the perfect start for Spurs.

Yes, we know about the Harry Kane August hoodoo but that must come to an end eventually and after nicking six goals for England at the World Cup and winning the Golden Boot, there has never been a better time than now for England’s marksman to show what he can do.
Ironically, Kane failed to score against Newcastle at the beginning of last season (in August) but did net the winner against the Magpies when the pair met at the end of last season.
The last two times the pair have met Tottenham have won. The last two times the pair have met, Newcastle have failed to score.
In fact, in the two sides last 12 meetings, Spurs have scored 25 goals to Newcastle’s 14, oh, and 5 of those Magpies goals came in one match, a 5-1 2016 defeat of Spurs.
Head to Head
Tottenham did the acclaimed double over their opponents last season as Newcastle left it late to pull clear of the drop zone.
An August 0-2 win at St James Park was backed up by a Sole Harry Kane strike in the May 1-0 win at Wembley.
Despite this, things have been relatively close over the last ten games with Newcastle claiming 4 wins and Tottenham 6.
- You have to go all the way back to the 16th October 2011 for the last time the pair recorded a draw (that is 13 games ago).
- Newcastle lost 47% of their home games last season while Tottenham won 53% of their away games.
- Last season marked the fourth campaign in a row Tottenham striker Harry Kane scored over 20-league goals in a season.
- Tottenham made the most crosses of any team in the Premier League last season with 825.
- Newcastle made 7 clearances off the line last season which was the second highest behind Bournemouth with 10.
