Manchester City vs Liverpool – Match Preview
After securing their place in the Champions League against Hoffenheim at Anfield, Liverpool continued their exceptional run by storming to a 4-0 whitewash of Arsenal a few days later. Jürgen Klopp’s side are once again looking like a fearsome unit, but Saturday’s encounter with Manchester City will be their toughest test of the season to date.
Pep Guardiola’s side, like the Reds, have won two and drawn one of their first three Premier League fixtures this term. But while Klopp’s free-flowing attack has been purring nicely, it seems as though the Sky Blues have yet to shrug off the summer break and click at their full potential. This was evident in their failure to break down Bournemouth for much of the game at the Vitality Stadium, which in the end was won by a late, late Raheem Sterling effort.
Still, it seems that it is only a matter of time before City start scoring at will again, and Liverpool’s obliging defence who let three in during the away fixture against Watford on the opening day could pose the perfect opportunity to help Pep’s attackers get back into their groove.
The bookies certainly think that Guardiola’s side have the edge in this fixture, and City can be backed at 17/20 with Sky Bet to claim the three points. But it may be unwise to stake against the potent Reds attack going out all guns blazing. Sadio Mane has three goals to his name already, while Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah have two apiece.
This one certainly has the potential to be a high scoring match at both ends of the pitch.
