This game is oozing with narratives, from Jose Mourinho trying to save his job, Cristiano Ronaldo returning to Old Trafford and the battle to top the group.

Predictions

An international break is always good for resetting the minds of fans when it starts on a good note. Manchester United’s comeback from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Newcastle United introduced some goodwill into the club which was much needed and it could serve as a kick-starter for their season.

The visitors to Old Trafford have kick started their season from the first kick of a ball. Massimiliano’s Allegri are yet to so much have drawn a game this season, winning their eight Serie A and two Champions League games.

Stylistically, the game is a difficult one to figure out. However, with the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, Juventus have transformed into a side ready to take the initiative and are a lot more comfortable controlling the game with the ball.

With Mourinho’s siege mentality and playing on the defensive in big games, you can expect Juventus to dominate for large periods. The question is if United have enough attacking quality to break down Juventus on the counter. Probably not, so 1-0 Juventus.

Betting Tips

  • Under 2.5 goals

A low risk bet but not without logic behind it. Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus have shown in the past four years that they’re mind-bogglingly good at defending and when they want to settle for a draw and go for a defensive performance, they’re usually successful.

  • Juventus -1 handicap result

More of a long range bet but consider Juventus haven’t lost or even drawn a game all season whilst the home side struggled against Valencia and are currently eighth in the Premier League, this is a great value bet.

Statistics

Head to Head

Unsurprisingly these two giants of European football have met on no less than 12 occasions, dating back to 1976 where United won the first ever encounter in a UEFA Cup group game.

There have been some absolutely classics between these two teams, most notably the 1999 Champions League semi-final where the Red Devils came back from at one point, a 3-1 aggregate deficit to win 4-3 and advance onto the Champions League final, subsequently winning it.

Stats

  • Paolo Dybala is the joint second top scorer in the Champions League this season with three goals, all coming against BSC Young Boys last round. The Argentine averages the most shots per game with seven.
  • In away games this campaign Juventus can be considered the second most aggressive side, picking up three yellows and one red card.
  • Both sides are yet to even concede a goal in the Champions League thus far and are one of only four teams in the competition to have that badge of honour.
