The match is over.
France have only lost one game in the group stage so far. But that loss to Turkey has given both them and Iceland hope of a place in final top two.
France know they cannot afford to slip up against the other top teams in the group after the defeat to Turkey. But a draw away in Iceland would not be the worse result in the world – as long as they took all three points from their match day eight fixture.
With such talent in the French squad – even when players such as Kylian Mbappe are injured – it would seem likely that the visitors would score here. But the passionate home crowd in a small stadium could spur Iceland on to find the net as well.
BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
Head to Head
In 14 meetings between the two nations Iceland have never been able to beat the French. The last game, earlier in this qualification campaign, ended in a 4-0 defeat in Paris.
A tense draw
France can afford to drop some points and still make it to the finals next summer. Iceland are desperate to get a win at home that will put them level with their visitors and Turkey. Even though the weather may not be kind to France they should be able to leave with a point.
