Gareth Southgate May be Forced to Shuffle His Pack Against Panama
Dele Alli wasn’t at his mischievous and creative best against Tunisia but the Spurs midfielder was carrying an injury and his participation in the tournament will be carefully monitored by England’s medical staff. The FA released a statement confirming that he had sustained a ‘minor sprain’ and his participation in the group stage is in jeopardy.
England have plenty of options and Gareth Southgate may opt to make a number of changes for his side’s clash with World Cup debutantes Panama on June 24th. Marcus Rashford and Ruben Loftus-Cheek impressed from the bench against Tunisia and the latter is the likely beneficiary of Alli’s injury. The Chelsea midfielder enjoyed a dynamic cameo which impressed England fans and he could be given some minutes in Nizhny Novgorod.
Alli is likely to sit out of this week’s training sessions with the player concerned about aggravating the problem and there are believed to be serious concerns about suffering a further setback.
England have put themselves in a terrific position in Group G and are priced at 6/5 with Betfred to finish top of this section. Harry Kane’s late goal ensured the Three Lions would get off to a winning start for the first time since 2006 and they are expected to progress to the round of 16. Royal Panda are offering 2/1 for England to be eliminated in the quarter-finals, whilst more optimistic punters can take the 9/2 available for Southgate’s men to crash out in the semi-finals.
They end their Group G campaign against Belgium on June 28th with both sides likely to have secured their passage to the round of 16 by the time they meet in Kaliningrad.
Harry Kane Second Favourite for Golden Boot
Harry Kane’s brace continued the captain’s sensational run of form and the Spurs striker is currently second-favourite in the top goalscorer market behind Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese icon hit a hat-trick in his side’s opening game against Spain and he is available at 9/4 with both William Hill and Bet365 to finish as the tournament’s leading marksman.
Harry Kane is predicted to push him all the way and is available at 13/2 with 888Sport. He is expected to add to his tally against Panama and is highly likely to finish as England’s top goalscorer in Russia.
