Cheltenham Gold Cup Boasts Another Suitably Competitive Field
The field for this year’s Timico Gold Cup has been reduced to 27 horses but luckily for punters and spectators, hotshot Might Bite remains in the field. The Nicky Henderson superstar is looking for a seventh chase success and a sixth consecutive victory. The nine-year-old has had his fair share of critics following a number of near misses but looked the real deal in the 2017 King George at Kempton on Boxing Day.
Might Bite will come up against a talented field which includes last year’s winner Sizing John. The Jessica Harrington-trained runner was well-beaten in the Christmas Hurdle at the end of December but many believe that was just a blip and the eight-year-old is still third in the betting at around 6/1.
Definitely Red was handed top weight for the Randox Health Grand National on February 13 and the Brian Ellison charge is certainly going to be competitive off a mark of 167. The Northern raider looks set for a run at Prestbury Park and the Gold Cup looks the likely target. The 2016 RSA Chase winner made all at the course in January and can be backed at 16/1 with Betfair.
Total Recall Primed for a Big Gold Cup Run
There are still a few question marks over some of these participants and the field is likely to be whittled down further as we get closer to the festival. Total Recall is almost certainly set to take part in this Blue Riband event. The progressive chaser has been installed as one of the favourites in the Grand National betting but trainer Willie Mullins has confirmed that the Munster National winner will be lining up in the Gold Cup. The Irish trainer believes his charge deserves a crack at the top prize and could surprise a few of the more experienced runners in the field. Sportingbet offer a standout price of 25/1 for Total Recall in this contest.
