Cheltenham Festival: Top Tips For Day Two
Punters across the nation are looking forward to the second day of this year’s Cheltenham Festival. We look at all seven races on Wednesday’s card:
13:30, Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle
Look no further than Samcro (8/11) here. The Gordon Elliott-trained star has won six out of six during his short racing career and will take some stopping. With the right conditions, Next Destination and Black Op can push him close but this looks to be Samcro’s race to lose.
14:10, RSA Chase
As mentioned earlier this week, Presenting Percy (5/2) has a great chance in this. Some will fancy Monalee but the softer surface should suit Patrick Kelly’s mount. Dounikos is worth a token mention. Entered for other races at the Festival, he could run well if connections decide to push for the RSA.
14:50, Coral Cup
A lottery of a race. Max Dynamite is the 7/1 favourite but there are plenty of contenders and picking a winner may be tough. Looking further down the betting, River Frost – a horse with course form – is worth a small each way punt at 25/1. Good luck picking a winner in this field.
15:30, Queen Mother Champion Chase
Here we go – this is the race that everybody wants to see. Altior, the 2016 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle champion takes on Min (3/1) and Douvan in Wednesday’s feature race. Min, trained by Willie Mullins, can reverse their hurdles form over the higher obstacles; he has taken to chasing much better than he did to fences.
16:10, Cross Country Chase
11/4 shot Cause of Causes was well fancied before the rain came – now it may prove prudent to look elsewhere. Tiger Roll can run a big race in all conditions and is now 6/1. A previous Festival winner, he may be the one to step up in this gruelling battle of attrition.
16:50, Fred Winter Juvenile Hurdle
Another tough one. Nube Negra (7/1) is the current favourite but Look My Way is a horse to watch. Currently 12/1 in the betting, he finished second behind Apple’s Shakira in the Triumph Hurdle Trial in January. That is strong form and, crucially, the race was held at Cheltenham – that could give him the edge.
17:30, Champion Bumper
Blackbow will go off as a red hot favourite for this race – and with good reason. He isn’t quite as dominant as Samcro but the 9/2 shot is the class act in the field. Rhinestone (9/1) and Tornado Flyer (8/1) could feature prominently but the favourite should be too strong.
