Chelsea vs Derby County: Predictions, Betting Tips & Odds
Beware Chelsea as the messiah Frank Lampard returns to Stamford Bridge for the first time in management with his rampant Rams out to claim another high-profile scalp.
It is almost as if the football romantics drew these two out of the hat for this eye-catching fourth round tie.
The big story is of course the return of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard to his old stomping ground as manager of Derby County but let us not forget, there is a competitive football match to be played.
Both sides come into the game in fine form especially the Rams who claimed the scalp of Manchester United in the third round.
Much depends on how seriously Chelsea Maurizio Sarri takes the competition with a top four spot in the Premier League surely a priority.
However, no matter how impressive Derby were against United in reaching the fourth round, the fact remains that Chelsea are currently a better side and the Rams have not beaten the Blues this century, that is a run of nine games.
Although Derby are not shy of a goal at Stamford Bridge, the prediction is Chelsea will continue their unbeaten winning run in all competitions with a narrow 2-1 victory.
- Both teams to score
Goals look like they are going to be in store on Lampard’s return to the Bridge.
Derby have managed to score in their last three trips to West London and with a host of goals this season look a good bet to continue that run.
- Chelsea to win and both teams to score
There is real value in this bet as on paper at least the match result in Chelsea’s favour looks obvious.
The Blues have not lost at home to the Rams since 1983 but both sides have been on-point when it comes to sticking the ball in the back of the net this season.

Head to Head
As mentioned above, Chelsea’s record over Derby makes for some terrifying reading for Rams fans.
The Blues have won have won eight of the last ten meetings between the two with Derby not having registered a win over Chelsea since 1999.
Even worse ready for Lampard’s men is the fact that they have not won at Stamford Bridge since a League Division Two game back in 1983 even though this may present their best opportunity to end that hoodoo.
Overall, the record is fairly even with Chelsea having won 39 times, Derby 38 and a total of 29 draws since their first meeting in 1910.
- Chelsea has won the EFL Cup five times last winning it during the 2014/15 season.
- Derby County have never won the EFL Cup.
- Chelsea beat Liverpool to reach the fourth round of the EFL Cup while Derby overcame Manchester United at Old Trafford.
- Derby have not beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge since 1983.
- The last time the pair met was in the EFL Cup when Chelsea ran out 3-1 winners at Pride Park in December 2014 on their way to lifting the trophy.
