Champions League Semi-Final First Leg Betting Preview
Ladies and Gentlemen, we are nearly there… There are only two tickets left to be taken for this year’s Champions League final and these four teams are looking to get one step closer to taking theirs. Get our previews and predictions below as well as the best odds on the market.
Liverpool vs Roma – 24th April
Nothing quite matches the atmosphere of a European night at Anfield and it gets even more special at the business end of the season. Many will see the Reds at the runaway home favourites, but no one gets to the semi-final stage by accident, so a cheeky outsider on Roma @ 4/1 might not be a bad call.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have impressed on all fronts this season, none more so than by seeing off Man City in the last round, however their Egyptian Talisman Mo Salah has set his eyes firmly on Champions League glory. With their sturdy defence and their dazzling array upfront, Liverpool will certainly look to wrap this tie up in the first leg.
Roma have had a more muted domestic campaign than Liverpool and will see themselves fighting to maintain their 3rd place position come the end of the season, however that all goes out the window in Europe, just ask Barcelona. Some familiar faces will return to Anfield for this leg in the forms of Aleksandar Kolarov and Edin Dzeko who will be looking to make sure their names aren’t forgotten on Merseyside.
Prediction: Liverpool 3-1
Odds: 11/1 with William Hill
Bayern vs Real Madrid – 25th April
All eyes will be on the Allianz Arena for the glamour tie of the round and a fixture that would befit any Champions League final let alone a semi. The German giants take on the Spanish powerhouse in a match that would leave even the neutrals salivating. While it can be hard to back against Bayern at home, Real know how to turn it on in Europe making this a tougher tie for the punters to call.
Bayern head into this game having scored 9 in their last 3 games in all competitions, but there will have to be a late fitness test for star midfielder Arturo Vidal as he may face surgery making his appearance in either leg a doubt. However fortunately for Bayern, they have stars and goal scorers all over the pitch and will look to make this a high scoring leg to take to the Bernabéu.
Like Roma, Real go into this game in third place domestically but as we have seen time and time again, Madrid can be a completely different beast in Europe. Like Bayern, Real also have the firepower to make this tie a barnstormer and many might look to leader Cristiano Ronaldo to ensure this goes down to the wire.
Prediction: Bayern 4-2
Odds: 40/1 with Ladbrokes
