Champions League Best Bets after the Semi Final Draw
The Champions League draw for the route to the final has been made and as expected, each side’s path to Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano is filled with the intrigue, rivalry and intensity that makes Europe’s premier club competition such a global hit.
So, who will fancy their chances of making it June’s final and could there be an upset on the cards?
How the semi-finals shape up
Everything depends on the outcome of the quarter-finals, but the last eight winners between Tottenham and Manchester City will take on the winner of Ajax and Juventus, whilst the victor between Manchester United and Barcelona will take on either Liverpool or Porto.
At least one English side in the Semis
Following the quarter-final/semi-final draw, it means there is guaranteed to be at least one Premier League side in the last four as Tottenham and Manchester City will go toe to toe in the last eight.
Ironically, the pair are also the only two sides never to have won the competition with the other remaining six sides all successful in the Champions League at least once.
A final showdown between Liverpool and Manchester City is still on the cards much like in the Premier League with both sides failing to draw one another in the semi-finals.
What has the draw done to the odds?
Manchester City remain favourites with the bookies at around 5/2 despite likely having to face Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus in the semi-final.
City’s dominant display against Schalke prior to the draw has made everyone sit up and take note. Juventus showed how much they relied on Ronaldo to overcome Atletico, but it also showed resilience that will be needed if they are to come up against City in the last four.
It seems the best sportsbooks make the winner of that likely semi-final tie the favourite to go on and win the tournament as Juventus themselves are deemed joint second favourites with Barcelona to go on and lift a third European Cup at around 7/2.
Liverpool will expect to be contesting the last four but will need to overcome either Barcelona or Manchester United if they are to reach the final.
The Reds meet 100/1 Champions League outsiders Porto in the last eight but will then be faced with the daunting task of either Manchester United or Barcelona.
The Catalans will be eager to take advantage of Real Madrid’s absence and make it six Champions League titles.
Liverpool can be backed at 9/2 whilst the Red Devils under Ole Gunnar Solskjær are deemed heavy underdogs at around 20/1.
Tottenham and Ajax find themselves well down the pecking order in the betting with the Lilywhites in at 25/1 and the Dutch representatives at 40/1.
It promises to be a tense road to the final and one that you will not want to miss.
