Biggest Races of the 2017 Ebor Festival
York Racecourse takes centre stage for four days between August 23–26 for the 2017 Ebor Festival, one of the biggest weeks of the year on the British flat calendar. Here is a look at the highlights of this year’s meeting.
Day One – Juddmonte International
The feature race on the opening day at York is the Juddmonte International, which is run over 1m2f. This race sees the best of the three-year-old crop Barney Roy and Churchill take on the more experienced horses of the middle-distance division, such as Ulysses and Highland Reel. Barney Roy, who was successful in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, is the 3/1 favourite in the horse racing betting to claim his second Group One success of the season.
Day Two – Yorkshire Oaks
Enable has been too good for her rivals so far this season with two Classics to her name. John Gosden’s filly showed how good she was when she took on the older generation in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot last month where she came out on top by over four lengths. She is likely to be one of the shortest price runners of the week and it will be a huge surprise is she is not successful.
Day Three – Nunthorpe Stakes
Many people’s highlight of the week will be come on day three at York when Lady Aurelia returns to the track in the Nunthorpe Stake over 5f. The American sprinter has remained in the UK especially for this race and if she can repeat the run she produced at Royal Ascot in the King’s Stand Stakes, she is likely to be too quick for her European counterparts on the Knavesmire.
Others races to look forward to at York include the Great Voltigeur Stakes, Ebor Handicap and the Lowther Stakes.
