Group D – Nizhny Novgorod – TV: BBC
Group D looks amongst the most competitive at the 2018 World Cup and Argentina are tipped to emerge from a potentially tricky section. Croatia haven’t enjoyed much success at this tournament recently but they will fancy their chances of securing second and progressing to the round of 16. Can Zlatko Dalic’s men cause an upset here?
Argentina vs Croatia Predictions
Argentina were fancied to cruise through Group D but their campaign didn’t get off to the brightest start. They were held by Iceland and Jorge Sampaoli will stress the importance of picking up three points from this game. They missed a penalty and created a few decent chances but found the Icelandic back-line tough to breach. Croatia’s defence was rarely tested against Nigeria and they were relatively watertight during qualifying but it is possible to find a way through and Argentina should exploit that. Croatia are flat-track bullies against lower-ranked opposition but they often struggle against better teams. Argentina are fancied to pick up three points and can be backed at Evens with 10Bet.

Argentina vs Croatia Preview
Argentina will have been disappointed not to have collected maximum points against Iceland but they found it tough to break down their opponents and they must bounce back against Croatia.
Lionel Messi missed a penalty and whilst Iceland rode their luck at times, Jorge Sampaoli’s side didn’t create anywhere near enough.
Croatia never really got out of first gear against Nigeria and picked up a straightforward 2-0 win against the Super Eagles. They will fancy their chances of getting something from this tie and will aim to test the Argentinian defence. They have a number of quality players and will look to dominate the midfield.
Argentina vs Croatia Correct Score Prediction
Argentina rarely keep clean sheets and they could be susceptible to Croatian attacks throughout the 90 minutes. A 2-1 scoreline looks the likeliest outcome for this tie with both sides likely to attack from kick off. 2-1 Argentina is available at 17/2 with Bet365.
Both Teams to Score Predictions
Croatia have won just two of their last five World Cup matches but they’ve netted in four of those. They have goals in the side with the likes of Mario Mandzukic and Andrej Kramaric and they will always offer a threat. Argentina’s defence isn’t known for it’s reliability and their attack speaks for itself. Both sides have found the back of the net in each of their last two meetings and this could go the same way. Both Teams to Score? Yes is available at Evens with Paddy Power.

Why Should I Bet On Argentina Against Croatia?
This is an intriguing fixture involving two nations who didn’t reach the levels that they’re capable of in their opening matches. Argentina’s false start saw them held to a 1-1 draw by minnows Iceland. And while Croatia began with three points, their disjointed performance against Nigeria wasn’t met with praise back on the Adriatic Coast.
Zlatko Dalic’s side will likely face far more problems than against the unimaginative Nigerians on Thursday, though. Argentina know that anything other than a victory will leave them sweating on progress from Group D – particularly if Iceland beat Nigeria. Lionel Messi carried the Argentine’s through qualifying with seven goals but after missing a spot kick in their opener, someone else needs to step up to the plate.
Neither team comes into the match with great optimism and it’s a difficult one to call. The best value is probably with the draw at 12/5 with Bet365.
Andrej Kramaric to score first
Croatia’s forwards were off-colour against Nigeria, with both Andrej Kramaric and Mario Mandzukic being brought off. Mandzukic has scored one in his last 12 for his country, while Kramaric is much more prolific with four in his past eight.
Much is made of their midfield orchestrators, but at least one of the front line needs to step up if Croatia are going to go deep into this tournament. Before the finals kicked off, there was lots of optimism about Kramaric, who scored 13 times for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga last season.
He looks the most likely man to capitalise on the chances created by the playmakers. Kramaric to score first is at 19/2 with 888Sport.
Goals remain a real problem for Argentina. Jorge Sampaoli’s side scored just 19 times in 18 qualifying matches – the same amount as the bottom-ranked South American nation Venezuela.
And against Iceland, the Argentines had 27 shots but could only beat Hannes Halldorsson once. Messi alone had 11 shots on goal – the second-highest tally in World Cup history without scoring.
Croatia come into the game on the back of a clean sheet and conceded only four times during qualifying – numbers which are unlikely to cheer up followers of the Albiceleste. Despite having Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic in their line-up, the Croats struggle to create chances too, so a 1-0 Croatia win at 10/1 with Bet365 could be the way to go.
