A Tired Arsenal Could Struggle at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea vs Arsenal makes up one-half of a ‘Super Sunday’ in the Premier League when the two London clubs meet at Stamford Bridge on September 17th. The visitors were in action on Thursday night beating Bundesliga outfit FC Koln 3-1 at the Emirates but the game was delayed due to crowd problems. The Gunners made changes for that match but needed the quality of Alexis Sanchez to help them mount a comeback after going behind early on.
Many people expect Arsene Wenger’s side to struggle in West London against the champions, who have looked impressive in recent weeks. Coral make Antonio Conte’s side 4/5 favourites for this tie, with Arsenal as big as 3/1 for success on their travels. The Gunners have been exceptionally poor on the road so far this season, failing to score at both Stoke and Liverpool.
Chelsea were 6-0 victors on Tuesday against Qarabag and have had the luxury of an extra couple of days rest. Both sides made changes for their European clashes but Arsenal’s lack of rest could count against them.
Two more Premier League sides who were in action in midweek are Manchester United and Everton, and the pair meet at Old Trafford on September 17th. Ronald Koeman’s team struggled in Italy going down 3-0 to Atalanta whilst Jose Mourinho’s side eased past Basel in the Champions League. The Red Devils are odds-on favourites with all UK bookmakers for this clash following their superb start to the campaign, which has seen them remain unbeaten and collect 10 points from their opening four matches.
Other Premier League games taking place include Spurs vs Swansea, Liverpool vs Burnley, and Watford vs Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side were also convincing winners in midweek, thumping Eredivisie leaders Feyenoord 4-0.
