West Ham welcome Arsenal to the London Stadium looking to break a home hoodoo that stretches all the way back to 2006.
Over the last decade or so, a West Ham home fixture has meant a disappointing afternoon or evening for the long-suffering Hammers fans.
West Ham have not won a home fixture over Arsenal in any competition since November 5, 2006. 11 home games have passed since then between the two and Arsenal have won eight of them.
Quite the remarkable record but Manuel Pellegrini may well be spying an opportunity to correct that unwanted run.
The Gunners’ form prior over the Christmas break exposed a few weaknesses even if they have started 2019 with seven goals from their two games so far.
History suggests this game will be an away win, but West Ham are proving to be tough opposition especially with the likes of Brazilian midfielder Felipe Anderson hitting some impressive form of late.
The home win over Manchester United back in September is proof that the Hammers are capable of putting a top six side to the sword.
Only Fulham, Bournemouth, and Burnley have conceded more than Arsenal’s 21 on the road this season, so the Hammers will get their chances.
Expect goals in this one with both sets of defences continuing to prove leaky at the back and a third draw in four at West Ham between the two in a highly entertaining 2-2 draw.
- Over 3.5 goals
Arsenal have conceded 21 goals on the road this season whilst the Hammers have conceded 18 at home making this an exhibition of how not to defend with a goal fest proving our best tip with top betting sites for value.
- Arsenal to win the first half
The Gunners have netted in the first half in their last five games in all competitions whilst only one of West Ham’s last six goals in all competitions have been scored in the opening 45 minutes.
