United travel to Spain knowing that they need a win to have any chance of going through as group winners.

Predictions

With this group mostly decided it is only the question of who goes through as winners. Manchester United need to beat Valencia and hope Juventus slip up in Switzerland for them to achieve that. United have won their last two group games though so will be full of confidence ahead of their trip.

Valencia have already qualified for the Europa League by coming third in this group so may not be too bothered about a result against Manchester United. They have only won one game so far – at home against Young Boys – and may be looking ahead to the next competition rather than worrying about the Champions League.

After only getting one point from their home matches against Valencia and Juventus, Manchester United were looking nervously at the group table. But with back to back wins over the Italian giants and Young Boys things are looking much brighter and they could well get at least a draw in Spain.

This has not been the highest scoring group in the Champions League this season and both Manchester United and Valencia have had a very pragmatic approach to their games. With not much on the line this could be a match of few highlights, the football may not be scintillating and a 0-0 draw could be the result.

Betting Tips

  • Total goals at under 1.5

Betting sites don’t always seem to take into consideration the lack of importance of some of the final group games in the Champions League – and with Group H just about decided there is unlikely to be much to shout about at the Mestalla.

  • Draw

With the result having little bearing on the group – and the two sides involved not being the most adventurous in the competition – this one has draw written all over it.

Statistics

Head to Head

The majority of games between these two sides have ended up in draws – and Valencia haven’t beaten Manchester United since 1982.

Stats

  • Valencia have drawn two of their five Champions League matches so far but it is in La Liga where they have found victories hard to come by. In their first ten games of the season they won one, lost one and drew a staggering eight times.
  • United have lost only one of their last eleven European games away from Old Trafford – conceding only five goals in the process.
  • Valencia have only won one of their last six games against English Premier League sides. The most recent defeat was against Swansea in the Europa League.
  • With 22 previous Champions League group stage campaigns only Real Madrid, Barcelona and Porto have qualified more times than Manchester United.
