Valencia welcome Krasnodar to the Mestalla well aware that their opponents know how to spring a surprise as progress to the quarter-finals could be one step closer for either side.

Predictions

Russian outfit Krasnodar silenced Bayer Leverkusen’s BayArena in the last 32 thanks to a Magomed Suleymanov’s 84th minute to give Murad Musayev’s the all-important away goal.

Few expected the Germans to miss out in a result that will have made hosts Valencia stand up and take note.

However, Los Che enter the tie as clear favourites with popular betting sites to take a first leg lead and based on current form it is not hard to see why.

Marcelino’s side are on an 11-game unbeaten run in all competitions which includes a 3-0 aggregate win over Scottish champions Celtic in the last 32 of the Europa League.

By contrast, Krasnodar, despite knocking out Leverkusen in the last round, have failed to win any of their four matches since returning from the Russian winter break and look a little off the boil.

The bats home record is also formidable having not lost at the Mestalla in their last 15 games in all competitions whilst Krasnodar has not won an away game in any competition since defeating Krylya Sovetov in the Russian Cup back in November.

All of this points to the home win and it is hard to disagree, especially when you throw in the fact that Valencia kept five clean sheets in a row on home soil.

Against Athletic Bilbao at the weekend, Valencia scored twice in a 2-0 home win and based on form and Valencia’s home record, that looks like the smartest match result in this contest as well, with Marcelino’s men firmly putting one foot in the last eight.
