Wanda Metropolitano Stadium
After two incredible semi final ties it has come down to an all-Premier League affair between Liverpool and Tottenham to determine the best team in Europe.
The long break between the semi finals and the Champions League final has been a blessing for Tottenham as some of the injured players have had time to recuperate and Mauricio Pochettino should have almost a full strength squad in Madrid. Jan Vertonghen has been passed fit to play – and Harry Kane and Harry Winks are also expected to be available for the biggest game in Tottenham’s history.
Liverpool are the odds on favourites with the betting sites but there will be questions over the mentality of Jürgen Klopp’s side after pushing so hard all season to win the Premier League – just for Manchester City to power their way to the title instead. Liverpool obviously have the talent to beat Spurs and lift the trophy for the sixth time in its history – but it is going to take a lot of psychological strength to be successful.
Although the bookies have Tottenham as the underdogs here they will point to the stunning comeback against Ajax in the semi final as a sign of their mental fortitude and desire to win this competition. The way Spurs kept on coming back in the second leg after looking well beaten in the first half was astounding – and Pochettino will be hoping that they do not need to repeat those heroics against Liverpool.
Liverpool have played some amazing football this season and it does seem to be a little unfair if they end up trophyless after the campaign they have had. The stunning 4-0 victory over Barcelona will galvanise the squad though and Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino should be able to play – while Andy Robertson and Naby Keita face a race against time to be fit. Although the all-English angle makes it difficult to predict a result, Liverpool’s experience in the competition could see them end up winning 3-2.
Total goals over 4.5
The typical caginess of a Champions League final could disappear as two sides very familiar with each other meet.
Liverpool to win and both teams to score
There is such attacking talent on both sides that there will surely be some goals to enjoy. Both defensive units may have a very busy night on their hands.

Head to Head
These two have obviously met on countless occasions and although it is a completely different competition, Liverpool won both meetings in the Premier League this season 2-1.
- Liverpool beat Spurs at the semi final stage of the 1972/73 UEFA Cup – on the away goals rule.
- Although Liverpool have scored more goals in this season’s Champions League campaign, it is Spurs who have created more chances recording 65 attempts on target.
- With all the hard tackling defenders that have played in this year’s competition, the player who has committed the most fouls in the 2018/19 Champions League is Liverpool’s Sadio Mane.
- Although this is their first ever European Cup/Champions League final, Spurs have made it to four previous European finals – winning two UEFA Cups and a Cup Winners Cup.
