Round of 16, Leg 1/2
Wembley hosts Tottenham Hotspur once again as they look to build a commanding lead over Borussia Dortmund ahead of the return leg.
Tottenham have already performed a minor miracle in just qualifying for the Champions League knock out stages given that they picked up just one point from their first three group games. An unlikely draw in Barcelona – and Inter’s result at home to PSV Eindhoven – handed Mauricio Pochettino’s their round of 16 berth. Dortmund will be a tough opponent but Spurs may feel that luck is on their side at the moment.
Borussia Dortmund breezed through their group and went through as winners thanks to a superior goal tally than Atletico Madrid. The German side didn’t concede a single goal until match day four and will be extremely confident of getting a good enough result to take back to the Westfalenstadion.
Some good news for Spurs is that Harry Kane looks like he may be able to take some part in the tie after originally being ruled out with an injury until March. Heung-min Son has deputised admirably in his absence but the England captain is a hugely inspirational figure for Tottenham and could make all the difference if he is able to play.
Dortmund are enjoying an excellent season, both at home and in Europe. It looks like they may well end Bayern Munich’s domination of the Bundesliga this season and must be considered as at least a good outside bet for the Champions League by sports betting sites. Injury worries over Marco Reus may cause alarm for Dortmund but with players such as Jaden Sancho in incredible form they could snatch a narrow 2-1 victory in London.
Dortmund to win and both teams to score
The bookies can’t seem to separate these two, which suggests a tight match. But with so many attacking talents on display there should be goals and Dortmund might have just too much for their hosts.
Dortmund to win
A lot depends on whether Harry Kane is able to return ahead of schedule but Dortmund definitely have the players to take a vital away win back to Germany.

Head to Head
These two sides have become quite familiar with each other over the last couple of years and actually met in the group stage of last season’s Champions League. Tottenham were victorious on both occasions.
Dortmund will be especially wary of Harry Kane’s possible return from injury. The England captain has scored three goals in three games against them.
These two faced each other in the round of 16 in the Europa League in 2016 – Dortmund went through 5-1 on aggregate.
Tottenham may have only scored nine goals in their group compared to Dortmund’s 10 but only Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City and Juventus recorded more attempts on goal.
Dortmund experienced a frustrating time in European competition last season – getting knocked out in the group stage of the Champions League before being eliminated by Salzburg in the Europa League round of 16.
