Welcome to a new era as Crystal Palace are set become Tottenham’s first opponents in their brand-new stadium as they aim to spoil the home party.

Predictions

Roy Hodgson may be the oldest manager ever in the Premier League, but it looks like he has lost none of his ability after all but guiding Crystal Palace to within touching distance of another season of top flight football.

The 71-year-old also has the accolade of being the first manager to bring an opposing Premier League side to Tottenham’s new stadium in what promises to be a momentous and emotional contest for the Lilywhites.

Unsurprisingly, the new stadium is expected to give the home side a lift as they are big favourites with popular sportsbooks to get off to a winning start in their new home.

Considering the Lilywhites has won the last seven Premier League meetings between the two, it would suggest a home win is the smart prediction and we agree even though Crystal Palace’s away record is better than their home record.

Expect a narrow game with Spurs edging it 1-0, just as it has been in the sides’ five Premier League meetings.

Betting Tips

Tottenham to win 1-0

For value, this is one of the best bets you can get with the best betting sites. You have to go back to January 2016 for the last time Tottenham did not beat Crystal Palace in the Premier League by this score line.

Crystal Palace to fail to score

Tottenham have never conceded goal at the new White Hart Lane (only joking – but true), but the Eagles have not scored in league match against Spurs in their last five meetings.

Statistics

Head to Head

Crystal Palace have already beaten Spurs this year after a 2-0 home win in the fourth round of the FA Cup cut off another trophy avenue for Tottenham.

However, the Lilywhites did win the reverse fixture in the Premier League back in November thanks to a single Juan Foyth strike in the second half.

That win was (at the time) the seventh straight win Tottenham had recorded over Palace in the Premier League, with the Eagles not having won in the league against Spurs since 2015, and not on Tottenham’s home ground since November 1997.

Overall, Tottenham have claimed 29 victories with Palace recording 12 and a total of 13 draws.

Stats

  • This will be the first ever game in Tottenham’s new stadium.
  • Spurs won the first ever meeting between the pair 3-0 in a 1906 Southern League contest.
  • Crystal Palace have lost the last seven league meetings with the Lilywhites.
  • Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha has been dispossessed more times (109) than any other player this season.
