Semi final, Leg 1
Two clubs that were not expected to reach the semi final stage find themselves just two games from the Champions League final as Ajax travel to London to face Tottenham.
Tottenham are enjoying an excellent season – both domestically and in Europe – and have so far managed to not miss their talismanic captain Harry Kane. An injury picked up against Manchester City has kept the England captain out, but Lucas Moura, Heung-Min Son and even Fernando Llorente have stepped up to score the goals that have seen them get this far.
Ajax have suddenly become everyone’s second favourite team as the Dutch club has knocked both Real Madrid and Juventus out of this season’s Champions League. A fast-paced refreshing style of football has seen them deservedly reach the final four and confidence is high in Amsterdam ahead of the semi final.
The bookmakers have these two just about level when it comes to qualifying for the final but Spurs will have the edge at home in the first leg. If the defence can keep tight and the attacking players are able to score a few goals then the second leg would be much easier for the English Premier League side.
Sports betting sites have slashed Ajax’s odds since their heroics in the last few rounds – but they are still outsiders to lift the trophy in Madrid. These two teams have been a breath of fresh air in the Champions League and this game promises to be a classic. Spurs should be too strong at home but Ajax could grab an all-important away goal in a 2-1 home win.
Tottenham to win
Although Son missing through suspension is a huge blow for Spurs they will still be confident of taking a lead to Amsterdam .
Tottenham to score over 1.5 goals
With such attacking talent on show it is likely that both teams will score in this one – but Spurs have managed over 1.5 goals in seven of their last ten home matches.
