You can bet on the next matches:
Switzerland will quietly fancy themselves to progress deep into this tournament after making a good impression in Group E. Vladimir Petkovic’s side had picked up a useful point against Brazil before a lively second half performance saw them beat Serbia 2-1. They face arguably their easiest game of the competition against Costa Rica in Nizhny Novogorod and will be expected to come away with three points. They have creativity in their side and a rock-solid defence which should be enough to see them through. They should be backed at 1.65 with 888sport to end the group stage on a high and collect three points.
Switzerland vs Costa Rica Preview
It’s a fascinating battle at the top of Group E between Brazil and Switzerland. The Swiss were better than Tite’s side in the second half when the pair met in Rostov last week and will fancy their chances of finishing above the Selecao. They should be able to end with three points here and secure themselves a potentially easier round of 16 contest. They have solid performers throughout their team, many of whom play in top leagues around Europe and that experience should pay dividends here. They’ve conceded in each of their two games so far but concerns about their attacking play were unfounded as they’ve netted three times in two contests.
Costa Rica were sensational in Brazil four years ago but they’ve been unable to make a similar impression this time round. They failed to trouble Tite’s side in their second Group E match and are in danger of leaving the tournament goalless and pointless. They are solid enough but they don’t offer enough much in the final third. The Swiss defence is hard to breach and they’re going to need something special here. Many of their squad members will be playing at their last World Cup and they will want to leave on a positive note but it’s hard to see that happening.
Switzerland will want to improve their goal difference and will view this game as the perfect opportunity to improve their goal difference. They may have to wait patiently to find the breakthrough but once they’ve hit the opener, it should be plain sailing from there. Costa Rica are yet to score a goal and they are unlikely to strike here. A 2-0 Switzerland victory would leave them with a goal difference of +3 and that should be enough for them to qualify top. Both Teams to Score Prediction
Costa Rica have yet to register and although they had some decent chances against Serbia, they rarely threatend Brazil. Switzerland are unlikely to afford them too many opportunities and they should be able to secure their first clean sheet of the tournament. They conceded a wondergoal to Brazil but kept them at arm’s length after that and Costa Rica’s frontline shouldn’t offer much threat. Both Teams to Score? Head to Head
These two teams have met on just two previous occasions but this is their first ever competitive clash. They met one another in 2006 and 2010 with each side picking up a victory. There wasn’t much between these two teams and its likely to be a cagey 90 minutes once again.
Switzerland 0-1 Costa Rica – 01/06/2010
Switzerland 2-0 Costa Rica – 05/09/2006
Xherdan Shaqiri – Switzerland aren’t blessed with a litany of productive and attacking players but Xherdan Shaqiri is clearly relied upon for creativity. The diminutive playmaker is likely to be looking for a new club this summer and he can put himself in the shop window here. He is extremely handy from a set-piece situation.
Keylor Navas – Costa Rica wouldn’t have qualified for the round of 16 in 2014 without Keylor Navas. The talented stopper was crucial in keeping his side in the game and he looks set for another huge tournament in Russia this summer. He commands his penalty area well and is superbly agile.
