What is the Stanley Cup?

The Stanley Cup is awarded to the winner of the NHL play-offs and is one of the most established and iconic sporting trophies in Canada. The first Stanley Cup championship was held all the way back in 1893 and sports fans have been glued to the action ever since.

The Stanley Cup 2016 was won by the Pittsburgh Penguins who defeated the San Jose Sharks in the final. The same team made it back-to-back Stanley Cup successes in 2017.

Unfortunately, it was a bad year for Canadian NHL with none of the seven teams qualifying for post-season after overseeing disappointing campaigns.

Canadian NHL teams such as Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames didn’t progress to the finals 2017 and are once again not expected to prevail this time around.

Stanley Cup Betting Tips

Always look for a side with a winning mentality and one who don’t crumble when the pressure begins to accumulate. Younger sides can often embark upon decent runs throughout the NHL season but can often feel the heat against more experienced sides who possess a savvy streak. In the Stanley Cup final itself, it’s always advised to wager on low scoring 1st third as neither side will wish to show their hand early with so much at stake! Pressure games such as the finals in 2017 are often low-scoring, nervy affairs.
