Southampton look to get over a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Burnley on the opening day of the season – but will face a tough task with the visit of Liverpool.
Mo Salah was able to get off the mark against Norwich but Sadio Mane was rested after a busy summer at the African Cup of Nations. He should be back for this one – and will be raring to go.
SADIO MANE ANYTIME GOALSCORER
Ralf Hassenhüttl will want to see more attacking chances from his Southampton side so a home goal is not inconceivable. Liverpool should still come away with the points though.
LIVERPOOL TO WIN AND BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
Liverpool showed against Norwich that they are looking to repeat last season’s goal scoring haul. Away from home it be a little harder – but Jürgen Klopp’s side should win this one comfortably.
LIVERPOOL TO WIN BY TWO GOALS
Southampton will want to get off the mark for the season so a home goal is possible. But Liverpool will still be heavily fancied to win by a margin.
OVER 2.5 GOALS
Head to Head
Southampton haven’t beaten Liverpool in the Premier League since 2016 – and it is doubtful whether that trend will be changed here.
Liverpool to win the match
Even just one game in, this season is starting to look very familiar. Southampton will be up for this but Liverpool have just too much firepower and should take all three points.
