Schalke 04 vs Man. City: Predictions, Betting Tips & Odds
Wednesday February 20, 2019, 15:00
Round of 16, Leg 1/2
The Champions League is back and Premier League champions Manchester City head to Germany seeking the most valuable of away wins.
Fighting on all four fronts may have an impact later on in the season for Manchester City but not yet. No doubt Pep Guardiola breathed a sigh of relief when drawn against Bundesliga outfit Schalke.
No offence to Schalke, but considering City’s Premier League rivals face the likes of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain, it is safe to say there are sterner challenges out there.
However, Schalke are no pushovers and came through a difficult group containing Porto, Galatasaray, and Lokomotiv Moscow.
Despite this, the best betting sites will favour Manchester City to progress to the quarter-finals and it is hard to disagree with that starting with a favourable result at the Veltins-Arena.
City scored 10 goals more than their German opposition in the group stages meaning Domenico Tedesco’s men will need to utilise their impressive defence after only conceding four times in the group stage.
Back the Citizens to edge this one 1-0 in another stoic defending display from Schalke as they frustrate the Premier League outfit and keep themselves well in the running as they head to the Etihad Stadium in March for the second leg.
- Manchester City to win to nil
Schalke only netted six times in the group stages while city only conceded three on the road keeping a clean sheet in the process making this the best way to go with popular sportsbooks for match result value.
- Under 1.5 goals
Schalke have one of the best defences in the Champions League, shipping just four goals in six games making a goal-fest an unlikely scenario.
