Saints and Panthers Both Hoping to Prevail in NFL Play-Offs

New Orleans Saints vs Carolina Panthers

The NFL wild-card play-off games begin on January 7th with divisional rivals New Orleans Saints taking on the Carolina Panthers. The Saints will be aiming to beat this opposition for the third time this campaign. The pair met here at the beginning of December with the Saints prevailing 31-21 and they’ll be aiming to dominate this fixture once again. The two sides had almost identical records across the regular campaign, both clocking up a winning percentage of 0.688 and each losing on just five occasions.

Historically, sides who have done the double over their opponents have also been victorious in the play-offs 65% of the time and the New Orleans Saints are likely to be extremely popular with bettors. They have been priced up at 1.91 to cover the -7 points spread, and are just 1.33 on the moneyline with Sports Interaction who are one of the best Canadian online sportsbooks for wagering on the NFL.

The Saints have overcome a number of injury problems this season and have also hit the headlines recently with rookie Alvin Kamara receiving a fine for wearing inappropriate cleats against the Falcons. Veteran Drew Brees is likely to play a key role in helping his side progress beyond the wild-card round and potentially set up a quarter-final meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Carolina Panthers have somewhat surprisingly reached the wild-card weekend although few are predicting them to prevail. They were inept against the Falcons at the end of 2017, with a disappointing 22-10 defeat and completing just 14 of 34 passes. Better accuracy will be required here if they are to trouble the Saints. With three representatives from the NFC South, there is a decent chance of one of them making the Super Bowl 2018 and both sides will be desperate to progress.
