Napoli beat Austrian side RB Salzburg 3-0 in the first leg of the Europa League last 16 at the San Paolo last week and will be looking to get the job done here in the second.
Red Bull Salzburg drew 0-0 with Sturm Graz in the Austrian Bundesliga last weekend but are still nine points clear at the top of the table – they have lost just once in the league this season and that came a couple of weeks ago in a 2-0 loss away to Rapid Vienna.
Napoli also drew on the weekend in Serie A – a late Lorenzo Insigne goal rescued a point in a 1-1 draw away to Sassuolo on Sunday which made it two games in a row in the league without a win after losing 2-1 to Juventus the week before.
RB Salzburg finished top of their Europa League group with a full compliment of 18 points ahead of the likes of Celtic, RB Leipzig, and Rosenborg – they then put Belgian side Club Brugge to the sword in the first knock out round 5-2 on aggregate. Midfielder Xaver Sschlager is suspended for the Austrians.
Napoli finished third in their Champion’s League group behind PSG and Liverpool but ahead of Red Star Belgrade. They eased past FC. Zurich in the Europa League round of 32 and were dominant in the first leg of this Europa League last 16 tie and now take a three-goal lead to Salzburg. Manager Carlo Ancelotti will have to shuffle his squad as defender Kalidou Koulibaly and Nikolai Maksimovic are suspended while Raul Albiol missing out through injury. But Napoli have enough depth to win 2-1.
Napoli to win
Salzburg will have to come out all guns blazing to try and get back into this tie and that could play right into Napoli’s hands as they try and catch them on the counter.
Total goals over 2.5
Napoli probably should have scored more than the three they did in the first as they missed a couple of golden chances – while Salzburg themselves had their fair share of opportunities and that is why the bookmakers are offering this price for over 2.5 goals to be scored.
