Raptors vs Lakers: Predictions, Odds and Betting Tips
Sunday November 4th, 9:30 pm Eastern Time
The Lakers return home after a matchup with one of the leagues best, the Portland Trail Blazers. Waiting for them will be Kawhi Leonard, and the surging Raptors.
Currently 12th in the West, it’s safe to say that the Lakers have been a major disappointment thus far this season. While LeBron continues his stellar play, and continues to play an absurd amount of minutes, the young guns on the roster have struggled to keep pace with the play of the 33 year old future Hall of Famer.
The Raptors have to be laughing (using their best Kawhi impersonation) at the rest of the league at this moment. Toronto has looked phenomenal on the young season. Kawhi Leonard has quickly reminded everyone that he is a superstar, and has actually elevated his play since joining his new team. Leonard is currently averaging career bests in minutes, points, rebounds, and 3% percentage, on a per-game basis.
Expect the two stars, Leonard and James, to put on a show Sunday night. Kawhi, who may be the best wing defender in all of basketball, will still have his hands full guarding possibly the best basketball player of all time. Expect to see LeBron play off the ball more than usual, letting Lonzo Ball take the helm, and allowing Lakers to force defensive switches, effectively freeing Bron from the defensively menacing Leonard. Where the Lakers will falter is their defense, where they rank 28th in ppg, and more specifically, post defense. The Lakers have surrendered the 25th highest field goal percentage to opponents this season. Raptors big man, Jonas Valanciunas, is coming off a game where he registered more points (23) than minutes (17), and should thrive against the ill efficient post defense of LA.
Score prediction: Raptors win 123-118
- Toronto Raptors at Los Angeles Lakers: Take Toronto Raptors (SU)
The Raptors are tied for first in the East, and the addition of Kawhi may finally put them over the top as legitimate title contenders. On the other hand, the Lakers are in the midst of developing youth talent to eventually make a run along side LeBron, or to trade off to acquire talent that is capable of running along side LeBron on LA’s quest for an NBA Championship. There are levels to this, and the Raptors are frankly a superior franchise to the Lakers at this moment.
For all of Los Angeles’ faults, they have had no issue putting the ball in the basket, averaging the 3rd highest points per game in the league. Toronto is right behind them, ranking 7th. The Raptors have a good chance of climbing those ranks after this game, as the Lakers have surrendered the 3rd most points per game in the league.
Head to Head
These two teams have played 43 times, with the Lakers holding the edge 28-15. The Lakers have, however, been swept by Toronto in each of the past three seasons, with their last victory over the Raptors coming back in November of the 2014 regular season.
- Los Angeles is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games when coming off of a game where they surrendered 100 points or more.
