The Pittsburgh Penguins pay a visit to TD Garden to play the Boston Bruins in an Eastern Conference battle.

Predictions

It has been an abysmal start to the season for the Pittsburgh Penguins. They came into the current campaign as one of the favourites to win the Stanley Cup, but have not resembled the team we are used to seeing on the ice. While Evgeni Malkin is putting up impressive numbers – 27 points in 19 games – with Phil Kessel and Sidney Crosby also doing their bit, the team has had some serious issues at the back.

Two-time Stanley Cup champion Matt Murray has looked like a shadow of himself between the posts, with many questioning whether Casey DeSmith should be the team’s starter going forward. In 11 games, Murray has just four wins with a woeful 4.08 GAA and .877 SV%. He was pulled early again on Saturday against the Ottawa Senators and its clear head coach Mike Sullivan is losing his patience with the 24-year-old.

Both teams will be playing a back-to-back on Friday and Saturday, so it’ll be interesting to see who each team elects to go with in net at TD Garden. Jaroslav Halak seems to have replaced Tuuka Rask as the Bruins’ starter, but that has to do more with the former’s outstanding play as opposed to the latter’s poor performances. It really shouldn’t make too much of a difference whether we see Halak or Rask in net for Boston.

Boston currently finds themselves in a dogfight for a playoff spot in the Atlantic Division, and it should remain a close race until the end of the season. While their road form remains questionable, they have been incredible on home winning seven of their first nine games at TD Garden. The Bruins will like their chances in this one. Score Prediction: Boston wins 4-2.

Betting Tips

  • Over

The Penguins have had no issues finding the back of the net, they just can’t seem to keep the puck out of theirs. Expect a high scoring affair.

  • Boston to win

Given Pittsburgh has just four wins from their first nine games away from PPG Paints Arena, the home side should cruise to two points on Friday night.
