PHI Eagles at LA Rams Week 15: Predictions, Odds and Betting Tips
Sunday 12/16 8:20 PM (ET),
LA Memorial Coliseum
A short-handed Eagles team looks to keep their minuscule playoff hopes alive vs. a Rams team coming off possibly their most disappointing loss in the Sean McVay era.
The Eagles are almost certainly not making a second consecutive Super Bowl run this year. Last week’s loss to their divisional rival Dallas Cowboys was a major blow to their playoff hopes. In that game, the Eagles showed they have major deficiencies in the secondary, giving up 455 yards passing and three touchdowns to Dak Prescott. Offensively, they got away from their run game way too early, as Josh Adams finished the game with only seven carries, despite averaging over five yards per carry. If the loss wasn’t bad enough, reports came out on Wednesday that Carson Wentz has been dealing with a back injury all season, and will likely miss this week’s game, and possibly the rest of the season.
Nothing went right for Los Angeles a week ago. The Rams, an offense that averaged nearly 35 ppg through their first 11 games, mustered up a measly six points against the Chicago Bears last Sunday night. Jared Goff played so poorly that you would have thought that it was Jeff Fisher on the LA sidelines and not Sean McVay. Good news is that they get a plus matchup vs. a Philly defense that has played extremely poor over the last month, surrendering 28 points and nearly 440 total yards per game.
The Eagles are a defeated team. They will be without their signal caller, they lack a consistent run game, and their defense has been torched in recent weeks. Todd Gurley will get back on track this week, as Philly surrendered 192 total yards to Zeke Elliott a week ago. Brandin Cooks, who has put up two stinkers in a row, will re-emerge this week, as Philly showed last week while guarding Amari Cooper that they struggle covering deep threats.
Score prediction: Rams win 34-23
Though 10.5 points is a huge line, it’s one that the Rams should manage to cover. The Eagles have been miserable in multiple phases, struggling on both sides of the ball. The loss of Wentz is a major blow to the offense, while Jared Goff and Todd Gurley will both have field days against this defense.
The Rams may have put up a dud last week, but they normally average 34.9 ppg. They are likely to return to their normal offensive output this week against a Eagles team that’s in the dumps, playing with backups that have been beaten play-in and play-out on the defensive side of the ball.
