Chelsea look to make it three from three as they travel to the North East to take on a Newcastle side still at odds with itself despite claiming their first point of the season last time out.

Predictions

It has been the perfect start for new Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri. Six points from six and a win under their belts over Arsenal means the Blues can dare to dream once more.

However, perhaps not too much as defensive frailties almost proved expensive against the Gunners at the weekend.

That is something Rafael Benitez will be urging his Magpies side to take advantage of but Newcastle still have internal issues to deal with as well as an underwhelming draw over Cardiff last time out which posed more questions than it answered.

On home soil, Newcastle will score but Chelsea will too having scored five times in their last five trips to St James Park.

Expect successive 2-1 home defeats to leave Newcastle boss Benitez cursing his luck once more.

Betting Tips

The bookmaker may as well pay you out now if you take this bet.

When the two meet it is goals galore, so much so in fact that only once in the last eight meetings between the two has there been less than three goals.

But even that was a 2-0 win for the Blues at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues were quick out of the blocks against Arsenal and Sarri will expect more of the same against Newcastle.

Chelsea were 2-0 up before the clock struck 29 at the weekend and four of Chelsea’s six goals this season have come in the first half.

Statistics

Head to Head

As you would expect, Chelsea edge the head to head record in all competitions since the pair first met in 1907.

The Blues have beaten the Magpies a total of 71 times whilst the home side have claimed 53 wins with 39 draws.

However, last season, each side earned themselves three-points as Chelsea won at home 3-1 in December whilst Newcastle hammered the Blues 3-0 in the reverse fixture in May.

The two also met in the fourth round of the FA Cup and it was Chelsea who won the day claiming a 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

Stats

  • Newcastle’s Ronald Orr scored the first ever goal between the two sides when they met in a top-flight game in September 1907.
  • Newcastle’s Kenedy had match to forget against Cardiff last time out completing zero successful first half passes and missing a late penalty.
  • With 227, Chelsea top the table for the highest number of back passes in the Premier League so far this season.
  • From the 13th December 2006 to the 22nd September 2010, Newcastle failed to register a win against Chelsea in seven attempts.
  • In just 180 minutes of action this season, Newcastle have made 37 more long passes than Chelsea.
