England’s 53-year wait for a trophy could be just 180 minutes away but the returning-to-form Netherlands may have a little something to say about that.

Predictions

The Three Lions are still riding the crest of a wave after last year’s successful summer and the feel-good factor surrounding Gareth Southgate’s remains high among the general public.

That leaves England as favourites with popular sportsbooks to win the inaugural Nations League as they head to Portugal’s Estádio do Dragao for what promises to be an epic clash with the Netherlands.

Both sides topped their groups to make it to the last four with Netherlands paired with Germany and world champions France and England coming out on top with Spain and World Cup nemesis Croatia.

However, the Dutch under Ronald Koeman come into the contest after a morale sapping loss to Germany in the European qualifiers and after missing out on last year’s World Cup showpiece, will feel they have a lot to prove.

That could prove to be a danger for England despite netting a healthy 18 goals in their last five wins leaving the Three Lions as slight favourites to make the final.

Only once in the pairs last five meetings has both sides failed to score making goals between the two a likely occurrence with Memphis Depay on form for the Flying Dutchmen with three goals in his last two national games.

However, England’s strength in depth is far superior and for the first time in a long-time head into a tournament full of confidence.

Expect a thriller in Portugal with England continuing to add to their ever-growing goal tally in a 3-2 win to send the Three Lions to the final.
