The reigning World champions kick off their European Championship qualifying campaign with a trip to Kishinev to take on Moldova.
Moldova are on a five match unbeaten run thanks to a Nations League group that saw them play Belarus, Luxembourg and San Marino. The Moldovans actually only lost one match out of six and will be looking forward to testing themselves against France. Bookmakers will not fancy their chances however and an away victory seems the most likely outcome.
The France squad may not be used to the surroundings of the 10,000 capacity Zimbru Stadium in Kishinev, but will see this as a required stepping stone to qualifying for Euro 2020 and then attempting to emulate the great Spain side of a few years ago winning both major international tournaments in succession.
Moldova captain Alexandru Epureanu will lead out his side in his 92nd appearance for the national side and will be leaning on all that experience to attempt to get something from this match. Sports betting sites have France as odds on to get the three points though, so Moldova should be looking at some of the other group fixtures for points.
France lost to Portugal in the final of Euro 2016 and were denied the chance to lift the trophy on home soil like their 1984 counterparts. Qualification from group H will be expected of Didier Deschamps’ side but they will face some tough games against Turkey and Iceland. This should end in a victory for the visitors though – France winning 2-0.
France to win both halves
It is difficult to find much real value in this match as France are overwhelming favourites but they could share their goals between the two periods of play.
Total goals under 2.5
Many fans will expect France to rack up the goals in Moldova, but with a home game against Iceland just three days later they may take it easy against their hosts.
