Manchester City’s bid for the domestic treble can become a reality at Wembley but only if they manage to avoid the Hornets’ sting.
Pep Guardiola’s City side quickly switched their focus to domestic matters following their Champions League exit and the results have been remarkable.
Needing to beat Brighton on the last day of the season, the Citizens did what they had done for the 13 games prior. They picked up the three points with relative ease, despite an early scare to make it back-to-back Premier League trophies.
That means the Manchester club can make it a clean sweep domestically this season, as they prepare to face a dangerous Watford side in this season’s FA Cup final from Wembley Stadium on Saturday 18th May.
The Hornets head to Wembley having lost their last three games in a row. They lost their only other FA Cup final appearance to date 2-0 to Everton in 1984, with manager Javi Gracia keen to win the club’s first major honour.
The problem Watford face is that wherever you look this season, Manchester City have been a formidable force.
In the FA Cup alone, the Citizens have scored twice as many goals in the competition this season than the Hornets – 20 to Watford’s 10 – and scored four or more in three of those games.
That is one of the reasons why the Citizens are such hot favourites with popular sportsbooks to make it a league, EFL Cup and FA Cup treble.
However, the Hornets have scored in their last three meetings with City in all competitions, meaning they will deal City a sting at some point. It will not be enough though, as City win through 3-1.
Both teams to score
The last three meetings between the two has seen both sides score, while two of the last three FA Cup finals have seen both nets bulge inside 90 minutes, making this one of the best bets with online betting sites for value.
Over 3.5 goals
Four of the last five meetings between the two have seen four or more goals and with City’s scoring record this season, anything other than goals galore would be a surprise.

Head to Head
In their two Premier League meetings this season, it was City who took the maximum six points winning 2-1 and 3-1.
The pair have met half a dozen times in the FA Cup, most recently in 2014 when once again the Citizens won through in the fourth round, thanks to a Sergio Aguero hat-trick in an entertaining 4-2 home win.
Overall, Manchester City have claimed three wins over Watford in the FA Cup with the Hornets winning just once in a fourth round second replay back in 1986.
- This is only Watford’s second ever appearance in the FA Cup final, having lost 2-0 to Everton in 1984.
- Manchester City have won the FA Cup five times.
- City have netted seven more goals than the next highest scorers in the competition, who are Swansea with 13.
- City midfielder İlkay Gündoğan has had more assists in the competition than anyone else (4).
- Watford’s Wembley semi-final drew nearly 9,000 more spectators than Manchester City’s.
