City of Manchester Stadium
Round of 16, Leg 2/2
Manchester City’s bid for the unprecedented quadruple could take another giant leap forward with a draw or victory over Schalke enough to see the Citizens through in the Champions League.
A rip roaring 3-2 victory at Schalke’s Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen in the first leg has left Manchester City on the cusp of progression to the quarter-finals.
On home soil, Pep Guardiola’s side are understandably the favourites to progress with the best betting sites and it is not hard to see why.
The Citizens have won their last three encounters against Schalke (home and away) and despite being reduced to 10 men in the first leg, still managed to net three times in Germany.
Schalke also head to England on a terrible run of form. Prior to the Bundesliga clash with Werder Bremen, Domenico Tedesco’s men have lost four of their last five matches in all competitions drawing the other. Anything other than a home win would be something of a surprise.
Considering the Citizens have scored 13 home goals in their last four Champions League games, a comfortable 3-0 home win looks like the best prediction for this game.
- Man City to win to nil
Prior to the Werder Bremen Bundesliga contest, Schalke has only managed to net in one of their last four games in all competitions. When it comes to match result value, that is the way to go with popular sportsbooks in a game that is expected to be a very one-sided affair.
- Man City to win both halves
Pep Guardiola’s Citizens has scored in both halves in five of their last six Champions League games making this bet one you simply cannot ignore.

Head to Head
Manchester City won 3-2 when the pair met at Schalke’s Veltins Arena last month despite Nicolas Otamendi seeing red in the 68th minute.
Prior to that, City won 2-0 in the 2008 UEFA Cup group stages in Germany but arguably the biggest meeting between the two came in the 1970 Cup Winners Cup semi-final which City came through 5-2 on aggregate.
In total, the pair have met four times with City winning three and Schalke just once.
- Manchester City will be without Fernandinho and Otamendi who are both serving suspensions.
- Manchester City midfielder Leroy Sane played for Schalke and was part of the youth side before moving to England.
- With just six goals in the group stages, Schalke scored the fewest number of goals of any side who made it through to the last 16.
- Manchester City beat Schalke over two legs in the semi-finals of the 1970 Cup Winners Cup.
- The two sides have met four times with City winning three and Schalke just once.
