Norwich are given one of the toughest opening day fixtures possible, as they must travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool as the Premier League season begins.
Liverpool are heavily fancied to start off the new season on a positive note – and should have no problem getting their first three points of the campaign. But Norwich will be keen to impress and may snatch a goal.
BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
Opening day fixtures traditionally see a lot of goals as new players get used to team formations and defenders return from their summer breaks. Expect Liverpool to capitalise on that. 10Bet have Liverpool to win by three goals.
LIVERPOOL TO WIN BY THREE GOALS
Norwich will be keen to show that they belong in the top flight of English football. This could mean that the Canaries start the game well – but ultimately fade away towards the end. 888Sport price draw/Liverpool half time/full time.
DRAW/LIVERPOOL FOR HALF TIME/FULL TIME
Even for an opening day fixture it would be a huge surprise if Liverpool do not end up winning this one. There should be goals too, so a prediction of over 3.5 goals looks fairly safe.
LIVERPOOL TO WIN AND OVER 3.5 GOALS
Head to Head
The last time these two sides met it ended up with Liverpool sneaking the three points in a nine-goal thriller. The Anfield club have traditionally enjoyed this fixture and Norwich have not come away with a win since 1994.
Liverpool finished runners up last season with 97 points – the highest total in English top flight history for a second-placed team.
Norwich only won of their first six games in the Championship last season – but went on to win the league by five points and sat at the top of the table from the middle of February.
Liverpool lost just one game in the Premier League last season – away to eventual champions Manchester City. It could be said that the defeat in January changed the course of the campaign.
The last time Norwich were in the Premier League was in the 2015/16 season after winning the playoff final. The Canaries won only nine games and were relegated after just one season.
Liverpool to win the match
Norwich will undoubtedly be keen to get off to the best start possible but Daniel Farke will know that losing this game will not impact on his team’s chances of staying up this season. The German coach will be looking at other fixtures to pick up some early points.
