For one match only forget the league table as much more than just points are up for stake between Liverpool and Everton in the season’s first Merseyside derby.
It has been a number of years since the gulf between the red and blue half of Liverpool has been quite so significant with Liverpool harbouring hopes of the Premier League title and Everton harbouring hopes of Europa League qualification.
Liverpool maintained their unbeaten domestic run last time out but still need to go some way to reach the echelons of the title rivals Manchester City.
They say form matters little when it comes to derbies, however, it seems no one sent that memo to the Merseyside boys as anything other than a Liverpool win would be something of a surprise.
The Toffees have not beaten their neighbours since October 2010, with Liverpool winning eight of the 17 meetings in all competitions since, and six of those wins coming at Anfield.
The Reds have netted 10 Premier League goals in their last four and Everton seven in their last 10 making a 2-1 scoreline in favour of the home side the way to go in this one.
- Both teams to score
Only one of the last four meetings between the two has not seen both teams score against each other.
Also, Everton have scored in seven of their last eight competitive games whilst Liverpool have only failed to score at home once all season.
- Liverpool to win and both teams to score
To add more value to the above bet then Liverpool to win is a no brainer.
The Reds are yet to lose a game this season and have won four of the last six meetings in all competitions.

Head to Head
History is something these two have plenty of and especially against each other.
Last season the sides met three times with a win for Liverpool in the FA Cup sandwiched between league draws at Anfield and Goodison Park.
However, you have to go back to October 2010 for Everton’s last league win over Liverpool and all the way back to 1999 for their last win at Anfield.
Overall, Liverpool has won 118 of the head to heads with Everton claiming 82 victories and 82 draws also between the pair.
- The first ever Merseyside derby occurred in October 1894 when Everton won a League Division one match 3-0.
- Only Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero (55) has taken more shots than Liverpool’s Mo Salah this season (50).
- Liverpool remain unbeaten in the league this season after 13 games (10 wins and three draws).
- Everton have not won at Anfield since September 1999.
- Liverpool have received the fewest yellow cards this season with just 13.
