LA Rams at CHI Bears Week 14: Predictions, Odds and Betting Tips
Sunday 12/9 8:20 PM (ET),
The Bears will likely be getting Mitchell Trubisky back under center after a two game hiatus. Trubisky will be a much-needed addition to the Bears offense, as they try to get back to their winning ways vs. the 11-1 Rams.
The Bears escaped Thanksgiving victorious, despite not having Mitchell Trubisky under center. They weren’t so lucky a week ago, as Chase Daniels could not do enough to escape the Meadowlands with a “W” vs. the G-Men in overtime. Trubisky’s arm is reportedly feeling great, and will be ready to sling it come Sunday night. Trubisky’s arm is not the only thing that LA has to worry about. Trubisky’s mobility has caused issues for opposing defenses all season, he ranks 5th in the NFL in rushing yards by a QB, despite missing two games. Trubisky will also look to get the ball in the hands of mismatch maven Tarik Cohen. Cohen totalled 186 yards in last week’s loss, and is 9th in the NFL in all-purpose yards.
The Rams are your new Super Bowl favorites according to Vegas, and rightfully so. They are a dominant and well-oiled machine. They can switch from being a pass dominant team one week (413 yards and 4 touchdowns two games ago), to a run dominant team the next (149 yards rushing a week ago), all depending on matchups. The return of Aqib Talib on the backend of the defense showed immediate improvement last week. The Rams went from surrendering nearly 550 yards two games ago, to just 310 yards, and only 208 passing yards last week vs. the Lions.
This will be a battle of two juggernauts, the explosive Rams offense, vs. the stifling Bears defense. The worrisome thing here is that even though the Bears rank 4th in the NFL in total defense, they faltered last week against a Giants offense that has been offensively inept for most of the season until that point. The Bears will likely recapture their defensive swagger, as the return of Trubisky under center will help their time of possession keep Chicago’s D fresher, and from playing on a short field. Yet, Los Angeles will still have their way when it matters, as they have all year. The Rams offense has too much talent, and is too efficient to be stopped, no matter what defense you put in front of them.
Score prediction: Rams win 31-27
Excluding their lone defeat this season, LA has won their previous five games by an average of 10.6 points. The Rams haven’t been held under 29 points in five consecutive games. The Bears explosive offense has slowed down a bit of late, averaging only 25 points over the past three weeks.
The score total on all Rams’ games this season averages out to 59.5 points per game. The Rams themselves have averaged an impressive 37.2 ppg over their last six contests. The Bears offense should also be more productive with Trubisky back at the helm.
Head to Head
The Rams and Bears have split their previous ten matchups down the middle, with each team earning five victories over that span. Their most recent matchup dates back to the 2015 season, in which Chicago handled the Rams with ease, to the tune of 37-13.
