LA Chargers at BAL Ravens : Predictions, Odds and Betting Tips
Sunday 1/6 1:05 PM (ET)
M&T Bank Stadium
The NFL’s top ranked defense will look to slow down what may very well be the league’s most talented roster, as the Baltimore Ravens host the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC Wild Card round.
Two weeks ago, the Bolts were riding high off of a win in Kansas City. They put their names into the top tier teams in football, only for Baltimore to come in and manhandle them on their home turf. Baltimore won the game the same way they’ve come away victorious in six of their last seven games. Baltimore, who owned the league’s top ranked defense on the NFL season, bullied Philip Rivers for 60 minutes. Rivers registered his lowest passer rating in 2018, and the Chargers offense put up a season-low ten points.
The other part to Baltimore’s winning formula is the run game. Since Lamar Jackson has been inserted into the starting lineup, the Ravens have blossomed into the league’s second ranked rush offense, and first on the list that teams don’t want to see in the playoffs. Jackson’s unique dual-threat ability, combined with an offense that has catered to his skill set, has developed into the perfect marriage.
The Chargers will be at a disadvantage from kickoff, as the first whistle will be blown at just 10:05 am California time. Lamar Jackson is not the prettiest passer in football, and it wouldn’t be surprise to anyone for the Chargers’ elite secondary to disrupt a few routes. Yet, Baltimore doesn’t need Jackson, the thrower, to succeed, for the team to succeed. Baltimore won’t sway from their normal formula of controlling the clock with the run game, and playing strong defense. If Jackson can convert on one big play through the air, it might be enough to send the Ravens to the next round of the playoffs.
Score prediction:Ravens win 24-23
Betting sites odds place the Chargers as 2.5-point road dogs. Good news is the Chargers practically play every game on the road, as they have no home field advantage to speak of. Philip Rivers is a gamer, and will keep his Bolts in the game till the end. A healthy Melvin Gordon at his disposal, and a Ravens defense coming off of surrendering three passing TDs a week ago, should bode well for the Bolts keeping Baltimore within 2.5 points.
Despite LA’s struggles vs. Baltimore last time around, the Chargers’ offense still ranks 6th in the NFL in ppg. Since Lamar Jackson has been under center for the Ravens, they have averaged 25+ ppg. You might sweat this bet out till the final minutes, but the over will likely prevail when all is said and done.
