Knicks hoping a trip to Memphis will cure their poor form
This Wednesday January 17, the FedEx Forum will host the Memphis Grizzlies as they face the travelling New York Knicks, with tip-off scheduled for 7 pm CT. Currently at very different ends of the standings, both teams come into the game in less than stellar form.
Regardless of the Knicks’ number of wins in recent weeks – or lack thereof – the travelling team will be coming in as slight favourites with bookmakers given the fact that the crux of Memphis’ problems, Mike Conley’s injury, is still a factor.
Knicks hoping to snap the skid
It’s not been plain sailing for the New York Knicks in recent times but they have seen glimmers of hope with a win and three losses coming in overtime in their last five games. To add to this, the team should be boosted by two more faces pulling on the jersey.
Given that Memphis’ red-hot start has crumbled away since the injury to superstar Mike Conley, with Chandler Parsons’ injury continuing the plague to strike the Grizzlies, they’ve fared quite well recently. Despite this, the Knicks must be looking at Memphis as a way for them to get back on track with a win.
Cooler heads to prevail
Still trying to establish a true identity while shifting from their old ethos, the Memphis Grizzlies still like to go into games by playing gritty basketball with a team-based approach. The New York Knicks, on the other hand, come in with a strong defensive philosophy, with Kristaps Porzingis leading the point scoring.
If the Knicks control the game, dictate their time on the ball and play at their own pace, their stronger defensive work should be able to stifle the Grizzlies enough to set them up for a win.
Hardaway Jr. is back
Having been injured for 20 games, Tim Hardaway Jr. – the Knicks’ second-highest scorer in points per game – is back. His return should give enough of a boost to help the Knicks string some wins together.
If the return of Hardaway Jr. wasn’t enough, the Knicks signed point guard Trey Burke at the end of last week, hoping to bolster their chances of making it to the playoffs.
Everything seems to have aligned to allow the New York Knicks to get their playoff aspirations back on track with a win in Memphis on Wednesday but, then again, the Grizzlies have been turning up of late.
